Archive for the ‘Ideas’ Category

As I’ve launched a couple of special offers on the Warrior Forum recently, I’ve had a quick glance down the front page to see what’s selling. (And oh boy, do I wish people weren’t allowed to put stupid bloody symbols in the titles).

One (I forget which one) was inspired by Allen Says, apparently, where Allen talked about making a product available via reprint rights, but the product is only downloadable from you. So if someone wants to sell the rights to the product, they still get 100% of the fee, but the fee is determined and processed by your site – hence protecting the price.

I had the same idea a few years back.

As did Jonathan Ledger of the “7$ strategy” fame.

As did Andy Brocklehurst(?) of TheQuickWay.com

As did, I’m sure, many others. Even the Butterfly Marketing approach can be used in the same way by giving 100% commissions to your affilates… who are then effectively resellers.
It just goes to show that often, a new idea can re-surface time and time again, and one thing you can do to make your idea stand out from the previous ones is to simply wait a while… :-)

And here’s a free twist if you’re thinking about this sort of thing:

Make the “product” a password-protected website. That way people can’t just share the ebook, PDF, or whatever.

I’ve recently been doing some intense Visual Basic work for a new project, and because my VB is a little rusty, I keep having to check things online. (I threw away the best VB book a year or two ago, when I thought I’d done my last ever VB project. Silly me).

Anyway… Virtually every search I do in Google comes up with a page at bigresource.com in the top 10 results

See the results here.

BigResource.com scans a few programming forums, scrapes the first post in each thread, and lists them on a page. Each page then has links to a lot of keyword-related other threads beneath it, with the text of those threads as well. So each page in bigresource.com is keyword-rich, themed, and full of content.

Every bit of it scraped.

So why is it doing so well in Google.

And how much are they earning from the Adsense ads they’ve got?

And how could you replicate this?

I’ve just realised that I have a source of fresh content for this blog: me.

I don’t post too often on forums these days, but when I do, it’s normally because I’ve got something to say that I think it valuable.

So – copy – paste – new content for blog. OK, I need to add a bit to explain why I’m writing what I wrote, but it’s probably a good source of regular content.

Something’s occurred to me today.

I understand why some people would want to buy text links on a high PR site, in order to gain some search engine importance (although that strategy is now being frowned upon by Google).

But why would you sell a link?

To make money?

Here’s a little experiment you might want to try. Note: I won’t be doing this, as this is a PR 1 site, and I don’t intend to sell links.

1. Work out how much you could make my selling a link.

2. Get hold of a quality product with private label rights, relevant to the theme of your blog (better yet, relevant to the search terms people are using to find your blog). Create a good sales page. Put a link up for that product. But not just a link – make it more like an Adwords ad. A header, a couple of lines of text, and a call to action.

3. Monitor it for a month.

4. If you made more than you would by selling a link, keep the ad running. If not, sell the link. It’s only taken a month, and who knows what results you might get?
