As I’ve launched a couple of special offers on the Warrior Forum recently, I’ve had a quick glance down the front page to see what’s selling. (And oh boy, do I wish people weren’t allowed to put stupid bloody symbols in the titles).
One (I forget which one) was inspired by Allen Says, apparently, where Allen talked about making a product available via reprint rights, but the product is only downloadable from you. So if someone wants to sell the rights to the product, they still get 100% of the fee, but the fee is determined and processed by your site – hence protecting the price.
I had the same idea a few years back.
As did Jonathan Ledger of the “7$ strategy” fame.
As did Andy Brocklehurst(?) of TheQuickWay.com
As did, I’m sure, many others. Even the Butterfly Marketing approach can be used in the same way by giving 100% commissions to your affilates… who are then effectively resellers.
It just goes to show that often, a new idea can re-surface time and time again, and one thing you can do to make your idea stand out from the previous ones is to simply wait a while…
And here’s a free twist if you’re thinking about this sort of thing:
Make the “product” a password-protected website. That way people can’t just share the ebook, PDF, or whatever.
I remember that post by Allen Says inside War Room. That stuff works too, you’re right. We just grew a list of 1,100+ buyers in a few weeks using that strategy for a $17 product set up on Rapid Action Products. Allen said to sell at $27 or more… and he also said if he had to start all over, that’s what he would do. …So now that’s what my business partner and I are doing every month, creating a new product set up on RAP and giving it to affiliates who like the instant PayPal commissions. And you’re right, it protects the value of the product because if you sell MRR to the product and everyone can set up their product on their own site, then they can adjust the price lower and lower.
…We found a great way to use this strategy is to buy limited rights to an amazing product and sales letter created by a well-known marketer. Then go set that up on a system like RAP and use the strategy. You can leverage the product creator’s authority plus you don’t have to create a product or write copy.
Hi Jason,
Sounds like an interesting approach, particularly the twist in your last paragraph. I used to be quite active in the reprint rights field, and moved out because of the unlimited nature of most reprint rights, which invariably drives the price through the floor in about… oh, two weeks.
1100+ in a few weeks eh?
Mmmm. I think I might try something similar with a product soon
Regards,
Andy
I actually remember reading that a while ago lol! It seems to me that having a password protected website would be the thing to do instead of using a PDF like most marketers do. It might take a little more work to get it up and running, but I have seen some marketers use a password protected membership site and that seems to work really well for them. I might even try it someday!
