Why To Avoid Clickbank

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

At least, avoid it for any products going to people interested in internet marketing products.

I’m a member of Keyword Avalanche, and regularly (at least once a month) see someone (this time it was the site owner) telling people to get a “special offer” by using their own clickbank ID as the affiliate, and hence pay full price for the product, but then get the affiliate commission back some way down the line.

Now, as a product creator, that’s a nice way to get your product noticed, since it’ll rise up the list in Clickbank’s marketplace, and be seen by more affiliates.

But it’s pretty fucking underhand, if you ask my opinion. Particularly from Scot, who, as someone who runs, and indeed does VERY well on the income he makes from a (non-Clickbank) internet marketing site, I’d expect to have better morals.

Maybe I got it wrong. He’d already been in contact with the author of one product to negotiate a discount for KA members… maybe the author also said that we could insert our own Clickbank IDs if we want to.

Or maybe not. I’ve replied to Scot’s comment. I’ll re-post here what he says.

A friend of mine who has decided to get out of marketing to IM’ers said pretty much the same.

No matter what you do there is always some bugger trying to get your products for free.

If you are selling a book on flowers to Aunt flo down the road she is unlikely to know how to save money by using her own aff id (and the thought of it may shock her).

Dealing with Im’ers is definitely a world where ethics and morals are not held in high esteem by most of them.

    Paul,
    Thanks for commenting.

Actually, I forgot to share Scot’s answer, which was:

Yes, Ian is aware that this is a marketing forum and that this would be a common practice :-)

All he asks is that you do not share this outside these walls.

As far as how you would go about actually doing this, I’m not sure, that’s something that you
will have to figure out amongst yourselves.

So that’s alright then… is it?
